MEET OUR FAMILY | Our Story
We are Melissa + Cavell, and together with our four kids, we're the family behind The Russell Grounds. This is our story.
Our lives have always revolved around people — sports, coaching, teams, family, friends, food, kids, and community. Our house tends to be the kind of place where people gather, and we wouldn't really have it any other way.
We didn't buy this property with plans to turn it into a venue. We bought a home we loved — and then started wondering what else it could become.
You'll probably see our kids helping around the property. You'll see us moving tables, planting flowers, fixing something at the barn, hanging lights or dreaming up the next project.
And if you come back six months later, something will probably have changed.
That's because we're building The Russell Grounds slowly — adding to what's already here rather than trying to turn it into something it isn't.
We want it to stay warm, natural, a little eclectic and full of character.
A place that feels lived in.
A place where people feel comfortable.
A place where memories are made.
Our family has always loved welcoming people into our home and sharing what we have. The Russell Grounds is really just an extension of that — and we're excited to see where it takes us.

WE'RE FIGURING THIS OUT AS WE GO
The truth is, we don't actually know exactly what The Russell Grounds will become.
And we kind of like it that way.
We have this beautiful property, a little barn that needs some love, gardens we're still discovering, spaces we haven't quite figured out yet — and about a hundred ideas for all of it.
So we're going to play with it.
Grow things. Fix things. Move things around. Hang some lights. Have people over. Try something because we think it'll be beautiful... and probably realize halfway through that it was a terrible idea. 😂
Mostly, we just want to enjoy this place, make it feel more and more like us, and see what happens along the way.
So that's what we're sharing here.
Not the transformation of our property into a perfectly polished venue.
Just our family discovering what we can do with this really special little piece of land we've been lucky enough to call home.
